I am Charlene Zheng (she/her) and I am a first year Doctor of Medicine and Surgery student nominating for College Officer (coursework) in the College of Health and Medicine (CHM). As a college officer, I will proactively support and advocate for any concerns raised by students and aim to foster a connected, engaged, and supportive community amongst CHM students through my experience as course representatives and Year 1 representative for Medical Women’s Society. I want to enhance intercollege connection amongst PARSA students as I really enjoyed attending the CHM and PARSA events this year and meeting students from my college and other colleges. As a Senior Resident (SR) for the last two years, I have developed my teamwork, leadership, strong communication skills and experience in organising and promoting events that are accessible and inclusive for all students from diverse background. I actively seek feedback to improve events/activities that are tailored to students’ needs during different times of the semester, ranging from social events at the start of semester to study/de-stress events during the exam periods. Other than being approachable, building strong rapport and trust with students are also crucial. In my experience as representatives and SR, I was first point of contact for students and residents with questions or concerns where I advocated students concerns and questions to course convenors or management and signpost students to relevant resources/contacts when required. Moreover, in these roles, I also responded to ANU and Government Policy while proactively propose ways to improve student experience.
