Tristan Yip (Postgraduate Voice)

My name is Tristan Yip, the current Coursework Officer and Acting Vice President of PARSA. I’m a second year Juris Doctor student with a background in history and Chinese language.

Throughout my term, I have been extensively involved in PARSA’s on-going constitutional reform work and continue to lead negotiations with the University to build a robust postgraduate representation model with renewed funding arrangements. I have represented postgraduate students and provided feedback to several high-level committees and working groups, including Academic Board, ANU’s highest academic governance body. My work has involved dealing with a wide range of stakeholders from across the University and establishing productive working relationships with several members of the ANU Executive. As Coursework Officer, my portfolio has focussed on building better engagement through feedback with the Colleges and University administration on academic policy. Our team also directed the successful establishment of PARSA’s Coursework Shut Up and Write program and facilitated PARSA’s semester 2 Class Representative training program.

As President, I will continue my work with the University to build a new model for postgraduate representation which continues to ensure the postgraduate voice is heard without being compromised. Postgraduate and HDR students are the lifeblood of this University. Through our collective contributions to research and enrolment, we provide the bulk of revenue, research output and prestige enjoyed by the ANU. An independent, postgraduate-oriented student association greatly enriches the postgraduate university experience and cannot be compromised on. Accordingly, our ticket is committed to ensuring the continuation of a strong postgraduate representative voice to the ANU.
