Candidate for the position of Equity Officer

Sharrada Segeran (Postgraduate Voice)

Hello, I am Sharrada Segeran, a third year medical student and I am elated to be running for Equity Officer!

As PARSA’s Equity Officer this year, I’ve had the privilege of being involved first hand as PARSA worked towards a transition model. As we navigate these changes, the postgraduate community needs someone who has been involved in this process to ensure that services, support and representation of the PG/HDR community continues in our best interest. Currently, I am the Founder and Director of Mind Matters Network, a youth-led NGO focused on improving youth mental health and Chair the Youth Taskforce of National Coalition of Mental Wellbeing (NCMW). My active participation in advocacy internationally through ECOSOC youth forum and speaking at UNICEF allowed me to explore different areas of advocacy from sexual harrassement to diversity which gave me a better perspective to different issues affecting our community locally and globally.

I strive to ensure that your voice is heard, respected and amplified. As the Equity officer I aim to;

  1. Organize more community building events.
  2. Push ANU to review the mental health strategy (dated 2016), encourage more conversations around mental wellbeing and promote free mental health screenings.
  3. Strengthen peer support through workshops and more student drop-in sessions.
  4. Provide more advocacy platforms to ensure your concerns are addressed as we build the new model.

I will strongly advocate for inclusion and representation to ensure all students are well supported and get the best possible student experience at ANU.
