Irina Samsonova (Postgraduate Voice)

I'm Irina, an anthropology PhD candidate from CASS. As an international student from a First Nations background, I am passionate about protecting and fighting for the rights and wellbeing of students from all over the world.

Throughout my time in ANU, I have been involved in student activism: as a part of the ANU Circle for Gender Equity; as a CASS ICCR School Office assistant involved in the administrative operations of the university; through my teaching experience as a CASS School of Archaeology and Anthropology tutor; and from living at Graduate House. I have a deep and personal familiarity with the life and work of our university.

I believe that the university experience should be enriching - not only in terms of knowledge, but also in new and exciting self-enrichment activities, in forging lasting friendships at social events, and in the exploration of our beautiful city. Many of us are far away from our families and friends, or just feeling isolated and stressed by the pace of postgraduate studies.

It is important to represent the diversity and richness of our postgraduate and research cohort, and to hear and to be heard. It is important to stand by the rights and needs of postgraduate students through a strong postgraduate voice. As PARSA's HDR Officer, I will focus my efforts and passion on building a stronger community of research students, and advocate to the University for our rights, wellbeing, support services and benefits.
