Yalan Chen (Postgraduate Voice)

Dear fellow ANU postgraduate students, my name is Yalan Chen. I am an emerging artist studying Master of Contemporary Art major in Painting from ANU School of Art and Design. I also hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Leadership and Management.

Why me? I am a cheerful and creative person, my goal as a social officer is about enriching our ANU student life with art, music and culture events. I have lived in Australia for 17 years and travelled extensively overseas, such as to Europe and the Middle East. I am familiar with international culture, local arts and creative activities. I love and respect diversity and wish to create a vibrant social life for ANU students and their families!

As this year’s CASS Coursework Representative, I have organised and led PARSA events such as visits to the National Museum, the National Gallery, PARSA Unwind and First Nation Cultural Walks. I have also initiated cross-College coffee catch-ups to help postgraduate students to build friendship and collaboration opportunities. If I am elected, I would like to continue to use my creative talent to deliver an engaging, postgraduate-oriented social program, including trips to the National Arboretum, the National Botanical Garden, PARSA Ball, International Cultural Exchange events, Floriade, Language Exchange events, a Snowy Mountains trip, musical recitals and theatrical performances, outdoor activities and much, much more.

Looking forward to a very vibrant and exciting year as your Social Officer!
