Owen Mathews (Postgraduate Voice)

Hello everyone!

I’m Owen, a fellow postgraduate student! I was born and raised in Southwest Sydney as part of an ordinary family. My dad’s Australian of British heritage and my mother moved to Australia from Portugal as a child. I have a good sense of humour and will go to great lengths to people, but I’m also generally quite laid-back and responsible. During my downtime, you’ll often find me at home playing strategy games or binging sitcoms. As a student of International Relations, I spend a lot of time following world news and reading about foreign culture and history. I have particular interest in Japan, having studied Japanese in my undergraduate course and spent a semester studying there. I’ve also spent a decent amount travelling abroad, primarily to Europe, but I recently spent three weeks in June in Bangladesh. If I’m elected as Wellbeing officer, I will tend to my responsibilities with full seriousness and integrity. Considering my extensive experience and friendships with people from all aspects of Canberran society, I’ll be able to approach any issues from a position of understanding and personal investment. No matter what the issue may be, I will ensure that it is dealt with promptly.

A vote for me is a vote for sincerity and responsibility. Thank you all in advance, and I look forward to serving the student community.
